Preview Window

The Preview window provides an interruptible display of a rendered model. You can use the window's progressive updates to assess whether changes to a model are correct without waiting for a full render. You can change the model while the progressive refinement continues.

To display the preview, click PhotoWorks Preview Window (PhotoWorks toolbar) or PhotoWorks > Preview Window.

Preview Window Interface

You can resize the window. Previews finish more quickly if the window is smaller. When the teapot in the upper right stops spinning, the update is finished. Within the Preview window, you can zoom, pan, or change the view orientation.

Toolbar

Stop Pauses the update. Changes to the model do not affect the preview until you click Resume.
Resume Continues the update.
Save Takes a snapshot of the preview as of the moment you click Save in the Save As dialog box.
Fit to screen Displays the entire model within the Preview window.
Zoom to area Selects a smaller area of the model to view in the Preview window.
Zoom In/Out Displays the preview in more or less detail.
Pan Changes the position of the preview display.
View orientation Selects a new orientation, which can be different from the one in the graphics area.

How Model Changes Affect the Preview

As you change the model in the graphics area, the Preview window synchronizes with your work.

Changes to the model can:
  • Immediately restart the preview. Applies to most changes, for example, changes to camera view, appearance, scene options, Photoworks options, or decal position.
  • Restart after a pause. Applies to fewer changes, for example, geometry changes, adding a new appearance or scene, or changes to caustic or global illumination options.
