Edit Dimension Access

Edit Dimension Access controls which dimensions in a library feature are available for edit in the Library Feature PropertyManager while you are inserting the library feature into a part.

Use Edit Dimension Access in a part document (.sldprt) when you are creating a feature that you plan to save as a library feature (.sldlfp). Initially, all dimensions are designated as User dimensions, which are available for edit in the Library Feature PropertyManager. Designate dimensions as Internal to prevent them from appearing in the Library Feature PropertyManager.

Alternate method: In the library feature document (.sldlfp), in the FeatureManager design tree, drag dimensions from the Dimensions folder to the Internal Dimensions folder.

Example:

As you insert this library feature into various parts, you might want to routinely change the length (35) and height (25), but not boss radius (R10) or fillet radius (R3). Designate the radius dimensions as Internal to reduce the clutter of unnecessary dimensions in the PropertyManager and to avoid accidental changes to the radius dimensions.

After the library feature is inserted, all of its dimensions are available for edit.

To control access to dimensions in the Library Feature PropertyManager:

  1. Right-click the part icon at the top of the FeatureManager design tree, and select Edit Dimension Access.

In the Dimension Access dialog box, there are two lists: User dimensions, which can be edited, and Internal dimensions, which are restricted.

  2. Specify which dimensions you want to have available in the Library Feature PropertyManager:

  • To move a dimension from one list to the other, select the name, then click the left or right arrow button. As you select each name, the dimension is displayed in the model.

  • To move all the dimensions, use the double arrow button .

  1. Click Finish.

When you insert an item that has restricted dimension access, only the User dimensions are visible and available for editing in the Library Feature PropertyManager. The Internal dimensions are not displayed, and they are not available for editing. When you close the PropertyManager, all of the feature's dimensions are available for edit.
