File Locations

The PhotoWorks application provides options on the File Locations tab that affect where the software searches for appearance, scene, and decal files.

To set File Locations options:

  1. Click Options (PhotoWorks toolbar) or PhotoWorks, Options.

  2. On the File Locations tab, select from the following options, then click Apply.

Active folders

  • Active custom folders. The PhotoWorks application  uses appearance files (*.p2m) in this folder first even if the appearance file exists in its original location. This allows you to switch to different appearances with the same name for a model when you switch folders.

appearances in the system are reorganized by common usage to facilitate searches.

    • Add. Adds a folder to the search path.

    • Remove. Deletes the selected folder from the search path.

  • Autoload selected folder. Displays the active custom folder in the tree of the Appearance Editor dialog box.

  • Suppress standard appearances. Hides the default folders in the tree of the Appearance Editor dialog box so only custom folders appear.

If a stock appearance is assigned in the Appearance Editor or Scene Editor dialog boxes, the software does not hide the default folders even if you select this option. You must assign custom appearances before the default folders disappear.

File locations

You can set additional folders for The PhotoWorks application  to search when a appearance, scene, or decal file is not found.

  • Add. Adds a folder to the search path.

  • Remove. Deletes the selected folder from the search path.

  • Move Up or Move Down. Changes the order of the selected folder.

  • Search sub-folders. Includes sub-folders of the folders in the list in the search path.

When The PhotoWorks application  loads a file, it searches in the following order:

  1. The last location of the file

  2. The replacement folder list

  3. The folder where you last opened a document

  4. The folder of the referencing document

In a part, steps 3 and 4 refer to the same folder. In an assembly with a appearance assigned to a part, step 3 is the folder of the assembly that you opened. Step 4 is the folder of the part that references the appearance.

  1. The folders defined in the File locations list
