Sketch

When you open a new part document, first you create a sketch. The sketch is the basis for a 3D model. You can create a sketch on any of the default planes (Front Plane, Top Plane, and Right Plane), or a created plane.  You can start by selecting:

You can also create a sketch on a flat surface, a spline on a surface, or the face of a solid.

To start a sketch with a sketch entity tool or with the Sketch tool:

  1. Click a sketch entity tool (line, circle, and so on) on the Sketch toolbar.

- or -

Click Sketch art\EDITMODL.gif on the Sketch toolbar, or click Insert, Sketch.

  1. Select one of the three planes (Front Plane, Top Plane, and Right Plane) displayed.

In new parts, the plane rotates to the Normal to orientation.

  1. Create a sketch with the sketch entity tool, or select a tool on the Sketch toolbar and create a sketch.

  2. Dimension the sketch entities.

  3. Exit the sketch, or click Extruded Boss/Base or Revolved Boss/Base on the Features toolbar.

To start a sketch with a plane:

  1. Select a plane in the FeatureManager design tree and click a sketch entity tool or click Sketch art\EDITMODL.gif on the Sketch toolbar.

In new parts, the plane is displayed in Normal to orientation.

  1. Create the sketch, and follow steps 4 and 5 from the previous procedure.

To start a sketch with an Extruded or Revolved Boss/Base:

  1. Click Extruded Boss/Base or Revolved Boss/Base on the Features toolbar, or click Insert, Boss/Base, Extrude or Boss/Base, Revolve.

  2. Select one of the three planes (Front Plane, Top Plane, and Right Plane) displayed.

In new parts, the plane rotates to the Normal to orientation.

  1. Create a sketch with the sketch entity tool, or select a tool on the Sketch toolbar and create a sketch.

The sketch must be a closed sketch.

  1. Close the sketch to open the PropertyManager of the feature you selected.

  2. Create the part and click OK .

To edit an existing sketch:

  • Click Sketch art\EDITMODL.gif on the Sketch toolbar, or click Insert, Sketch. Select an existing sketch to edit.

- or -

  • Right-click a sketch in the FeatureManager design tree, or right-click a sketch entity in the graphics area, and select Edit Sketch.

To create a new sketch in a part with existing sketches:

  1. Click a sketch tool on the Sketch toolbar, such as Rectangle .

- or -

Click Sketch art\EDITMODL.gif on the Sketch toolbar, or click Insert, Sketch.

  1. Click a plane, face, or edge to add a new sketch, or click Base/Boss Extrude or Base/Boss Revolve .

  2. If you clicked Sketch art\EDITMODL.gif in step 1, or a feature in step 2, click a tool on the Sketch toolbar to create the sketch.

  3. Create the sketch, and dimension the sketch entities.

  4. Exit the sketch, or click Extruded Boss/Base or Revolved Boss/Base on the Features toolbar.

You can also create a new sketch by extracting entities from an existing sketch.
