Preview Window

You can keep a Preview window open during a SolidWorks session to display a preview whenever you select a document on the File Explorer tab in the Task Pane.

To open a preview window in the SolidWorks client:

Right-click anywhere in the vault view or local view and select Preview Window.

  • In the vault view, the window displays the document name, revision, and configuration. You can choose revisions and configurations from the Revision and Config lists.

  • In the local view, the window displays the document name with its path.

To enable the preview windows in the SolidWorks Explorer client:

Select the Show Previews check box.

If a preview image is not available for a document, you either do not have permission to access the document or it is not a SolidWorks, Microsoft® Word, Excel, PowerPoint®, AutoDesk Inventor®, or AutoCAD® document. Only these types of documents, which are OLE documents, are available for preview.

  • For Microsoft documents, click File, Properties and select Save preview picture.

  • For documents from SolidWorks 2003 and previous releases, you might need to save the document with each configuration active to enable previews of the configurations.
