Adding Edge Flanges

To add an edge flange:

  1. In an open sheet metal part, click Edge Flange (Sheet Metal toolbar) or Insert, Sheet Metal, Edge Flange.

  2. In the graphics area, select one or more the edges for Edge .

There are specific requirements for adding edge flanges to curved edges.

  1. In the Edge-Flange PropertyManager under Flange Parameters:

    • Click Edit Flange Profile to edit the sketch of the profile.

    • Clear Use default radius and set a non-default value for Bend Radius .

    • Set a value for Gap distance .

  • Under Angle:

    1. Set a value for Flange Angle .

NOTE: If you select Up to Edge and Merge under Flange Length to merge two bodies in a multibody part, a lock is added to the flange angle. You can unlock the angle to change it.

    1. Select a face , and then select either Perpendicular to face or Parallel to face to create that relation between it and the edge flange.

  • For Length End Condition under Flange Length, do the following:

  • Blind:

    • Set a value for Length .

    • Click Reverse Direction .

    • Select Outer Virtual Sharp or Inner Virtual Sharp to set an origin for the measurement.

  • Up To Vertex. Select a vertex in the graphics area for Vertex .

  • Up to Edge and Merge. (Only available when you select a single edge in a multibody sheet metal part.) Merges the edge with a parallel edge of another body. Select an up to reference edge on the second body.

  1. Under Flange Position, do the following:

    • Set the Bend Position to Material Inside , Material Outside , Bend Outside , or Bend from Virtual Sharp .

    • To remove extra material in neighboring bends, select Trim side bends.

    • To offset the flange from the sheet metal body, select Offset. Then, set the Offset End Condition and its corresponding parameters.

  2. To use values other than the default bend allowance, select Custom Bend Allowance and set a value for Bend Allowance Type. For example:

  • Bend Table

Click Browse to locate the bend table

  • K-Factor

Set a value for K-Factor

Bend tables are located under: <install_dir>\lang\<language>\Sheetmetal Bend Tables.

  1. To add relief cuts, select Custom Relief Type, then select the type of relief cut:

If Relief Type is:

  • Rectangle or Obround and you select Use relief ratio, set a value for Ratio.

  • Rectangle or Obround and you clear Use relief ratio, set values for Relief Width and Relief Depth .

  • Tear select Rip or Extend .

  1. Click OK .
