Enterprise PDM Vault Access

Data is stored in a central archive called a file vault, which can be regularly backed up and shared by the whole product team.

To access files, you create a working folder on your local computer called a file vault view. Logging in to the file vault view lets you access files for which you have permissions. You check files out to edit them, so that no one else can make changes, though other users can still view and copy the files.

  • Creating a Vault View
    A file vault is a central archive for files and the database that stores information about them. To access files, you create a local file vault view that connects directly to the file vault.
  • Logging In
    To manage your files, you log in and open a SolidWorks Enterprise PDM file vault.
  • Logging Off
  • Working Off-line
    You can work on files in your local cache off-line when you are not connected to an Enterprise PDM vault.
  • Changing Your Password
    You can change your Enterprise PDM password from the Administration tool.
  • Removing a Vault View
    When you delete the local view of a vault, the actual vault is not deleted. Files that are checked out from the local view must be checked in to ensure that the most recent updates are saved to the vault.
  • Setting Options
    Users with access to the Administration tool can access administration functions that affect their File Explorer view.
  • Cached Files
    When you retrieve a file from the vault, a copy is placed in a working folder on your local hard drive. This folder serves as a cache area.
  • Permissions
    Enterprise PDM permissions control the File Explorer operations you can perform on files and folders.
