Data Cards

Data cards contain metadata about the files, folders, items, and templates in the vault database. Because data card information is stored centrally, users can quickly search and locate information about files, folders, items, and templates without needing local copies.
As an administrator, you can customize data cards to:
  • Prompt users for information during various stages of the workflow process or when adding files or items.
  • Provide a search mechanism for users.
  • Programmatically generate file and folder names for users by applying formulas to the input fields they enter.

By adding controls such as text fields, list boxes, check boxes, and tabs, you can use data cards to manage the design process.

Types of data cards:

File Cards Link to one or more file types within the vault, storing data that is specific to a file in the vault database.

When a user selects a .doc or .docx file in Windows Explorer, the Data Card tab displays the file card linked to the .doc or .docx extension.

Folder Cards Link to a file or item folder within the vault, storing data that is specific to a folder (and subfolders) in the vault database.
Item Cards Link to an item in the vault database. See Items.
Search Cards Enable custom searches when displayed in the Enterprise PDM Search tool or when users access Enterprise PDM search within a Windows Explorer dialog box.
Template Cards Retrieve information from users when they create a file or folder using an Enterprise PDM template.
