Configure Items - Descriptive Name

Use the Configure Items - Descriptive Name page to select the item card variable used as the item display name.

To display this page, double-click Items. In the left pane, click Descriptive Name.

Descriptive Name

Specifies the item card variable whose value is used as the item display name. Select a variable, or accept the default Description, which is mapped to the file description in the default SolidWorks Item Card.

Item Explorer generally displays both the unique item ID and the descriptive name.

Important: Because item IDs typically do not describe item content, select a Descriptive Name that creates meaningful names for all generated items.
