Reflected Load Inertia and Reflected Load Mass

Reflected load inertia is the perceived inertia of an assembly at the motor drive shaft of a rotary motor. Reflected load mass is the perceived mass of an assembly at the motor drive shaft of a linear motor. You can use reflected load information to help select an appropriately sized motor to withstand the load. For Motion Analysis studies, you can compute and plot reflected load results.
You cannot include reflected load results in expressions.

When external or internal forces cause an assembly to move, the calculated reflected load inertia or reflected load mass varies with time. Reflected load calculations include the effects of gravity, friction, and externally applied forces or torques.

Define reflected load inertia or mass results for constant speed motors. If you define reflected load inertia or mass results for other types of motors, such as oscillating or distance motors, the results might exhibit numerical singularities that do not represent the physics of the motion. Such numerical singularities are prominent near zero velocity or when the velocity changes from a positive value to a negative value.
  • Motion Study Motors and Reflected Load Inertia or Mass Results
    Motion study motors idealize actual motors. Motion study motors constrain assembly components to move with a specified motion regardless of external loads. Consequently, you can define a constant speed motor in a motion study and the resulting motion is not influenced by applied external loads. For actual motors, the motor speed varies with the application of external loads or friction. Consider this difference when interpreting reflected load inertia or mass results.
  • Assessing Force Contributions to Reflected Load Inertia or Mass
    The contribution of external or internal forces to the reflected load inertia or mass calculation is additive. You can calculate the contribution of forces, such as gravity, friction, or external forces to reflected load inertia or mass by defining a reflected load inertia or reflected load mass result and calculating the motion with and without the force in effect.
