Event-based Motion View

With SolidWorks Simulation® Professional added in, you can use a Motion Analysis study to calculate the motion of an assembly that incorporates event-based motion control.

To display the event-based view, from a motion study, select Motion Analysis from the Motion Study Type list (MotionManager toolbar) and click Event-based Motion View (right end of the MotionManager toolbar).

Tasks

Event-based motion requires a set of tasks. The tasks can be sequential or can overlap in time. Each task is defined by a triggering event and its associated task action. Task actions control or define motion during the task.

The result of an event-based motion task is an action.

Name Displays task names. Click a cell to modify the name.
Description   Displays task descriptions. Click a cell to modify the description.

Triggers

A task trigger is the event that drives the motion control action for a task. You can define task triggers based on time, previous tasks, or sensed values, such as component position.

Trigger
You can create triggers from:
  • Sensors:
    Interference detection
    Detects collisions.
    Proximity
    Detects motion of a body crossing a line.
    Dimension
    Detects the relative position of components from dimensions.
  • Previous tasks in the event schedule
  • Start and finish times for task actions

Double-click a cell to modify the trigger.

Specifies triggering task.
Specifies triggering sensor.
You can include sensors to trigger actions only when you set the Alert condition in the Sensor PropertyManager.
Specifies a time-based trigger.
Condition  
  • Alert On. Triggers action when sensor is triggered.
  • Alert Off. Triggers action when sensor is off.
  • Task Start. Triggers action at start of a triggering task.
  • Task End. Triggers action at end of a triggering task.
Time/Delay  
  • For triggering tasks or sensors, displays time delay for starting the task action. Click a cell to modify the delay.
  • For time-based triggers, displays start time of the task action. Click a cell to modify the time.

Actions

A task action defines or constrains the motion of one or more components in the assembly. You can define actions to suppress or activate mates, stop motion, or to change values for motors, forces, or torques.

You can define a task action to:
  • Start, stop, or change the value of a constant speed motor, constant force, constant torque, or a servo motor
  • Stop the motion
  • Suppress a selected mate
Feature Indicates linear motor action.
Indicates rotary motor action.
Indicates multiple motor action.
Indicates action by a mixed selection of features.
Indicates force action.
Indicates torque action.
Indicates suppressed or included mate action.
Indicates stop motion.
 

Double-click a cell to select one or more features. Select only features to which you can apply the same action.

Action  
  • On. Turns on motors, forces, or torques, and includes selected mates for duration of action.
  • Off. Turns off motors, forces, or torques, and excludes selected mates for duration of action.
  • Change. Changes value of constant speed motors, servo motors, or constant forces or torques.
  • Stop. Stops constant speed or servo motors.
Click a cell to change the action.
Value   Specifies changed constant for changed constant speed motors, or constant forces or torques.
Duration   Specifies action duration for changed constant speed motors, or constant forces or torques.
Profile   Specifies shape of constant speed motor profile, or constant force or torque profile. The profile is calculated from the value and duration.
Click a cell to change the profile.

Constant Acceleration
Cycloidal
Harmonic
Cubic

Time

Start Displays start time for task action.
End Displays end time for task action.
