Delete Obsolete Folders

Within the SolidWorks Workgroup PDM software, two types of obsolete folders are created automatically.

  • <vault_dir>\obsolete contains deleted projects.

  • <vault_dir>\projects\<project_name>\obsolete contains deleted documents for each project.

To save disk space in the vault, the vault administrator should periodically delete these folders.

If you delete an obsolete folder, but then delete a project or make changes to a project, a new obsolete folder appears.

To delete obsolete folders:

  1. Stop the Workgroup PDM vault service.

  2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the vault.

You can find the name of the vault folder on the VaultAdmin Vault Settings tab.

  1. Expand the vault folder (default, c:\VaultData).

  2. Delete the obsolete folder.

  3. Expand the projects folder.

  4. Expand the desired project, then delete the folder named obsolete.

  5. Start the Workgroup PDM vault service.

For an alternate method of deleting documents, see Best Practices.
