SolidWorks eDrawings

In SolidWorks® eDrawings® you can view and animate models and drawings and create documents convenient for sending to others. SolidWorks eDrawings is installed automatically with SolidWorks Professional and SolidWorks Premium. You can view any SolidWorks document from SolidWorks 97Plus and later.

As a best practice, distribute drawings and assemblies files in eDrawings format, which always requires updates when referenced parts are modified. If this is not possible, redistribute the updated SolidWorks parent drawings and assemblies each time you modify the referenced parts.

If Large Assembly Mode is selected, high quality HLR/HLV views in assembly drawings do not contain shaded data in the published eDrawings (.edrw) file. If all views in the drawing are high quality, no shaded data is included in the eDrawings file and you cannot animate the drawing in eDrawings.

Opening SolidWorks Documents in eDrawings

To open a SolidWorks document in eDrawings:

In a SolidWorks document, click File, Publish eDrawings File ( in the Save flyout toolbar).

You are prompted to specify configurations , display states , or drawing sheets (Current, All, or Selected) if the SolidWorks document contains more than one. The SolidWorks eDrawings Viewer opens, and you can edit and save the file in eDrawings.

Saving SolidWorks Documents to eDrawings

To save a SolidWorks document as an eDrawings file:

1. In a SolidWorks document, click File, Save As.

2. In the dialog box, select one of the following for Save as type:

• eDrawings (*.eprt). Part documents.

• eDrawings (*.easm). Assembly documents.

• eDrawings (*.edrw). Drawing documents.

  SolidWorks displays the correct eDrawings file type based on the SolidWorks document type.

3. For SolidWorks eDrawings Professional, to add password protection to the eDrawings document, click Password.

4. To specify eDrawings export options, click Options.

5. Click Save.

With eDrawings Professional tools, you can:

• Mark up files

• View cross sections

• Measure dimensions

• Move assembly components

• View exploded views

• Display mass properties

• Add password protection when publishing
