Aligned Section View

You can create an aligned section view in a drawing through a model, or portion of a model, that is aligned with a selected section line segment. The aligned section view is similar to a Section View , but the section line for an aligned section comprises two or more lines connected at an angle. The aligned section rotates the cut into the plane of the selected segment.

Aligned section views are typically used for sectioning features that would appear foreshortened in regular section views.

You can pre-select sketch entities that belong to the drawing sheet to create aligned section views. The sketch entities do not have to belong to an existing drawing view.

To create an aligned section view:

  1. Click Aligned Section View on the Drawing toolbar, or click Insert, Drawing View, Aligned Section.

To create an aligned section view with more than two lines, you must select the sketched lines before clicking Aligned Section View . The lines must be connected at an angle and cannot form multiple contours.

  1. Sketch the section line. The section line should consist of two connected lines at an angle to each other. Use sketch relations as necessary.

To help locate the sketched lines to ensure they pass through and are related to the desired features, right-click the sketch and click Show. You can see the sketch that defines the location of the feature to section.

If you are in a drawing of an assembly, set options in the Section View dialog box.

  1. Set options in the Section View PropertyManager.

  • As you move the pointer, a preview of the view is displayed if you selected Show contents while dragging drawing view.

  • You can control the alignment of the view. The view is aligned to the sketch segment that was selected when you created the section line; the cut faces from the other segments are projected into the same plane. For information about changing the alignment of views, see Drawing View Alignment and Display .

  • The orientation of the view flips if you select Flip direction in the PropertyManager.

You cannot change the angle of the line that you selected to align the view.

  1. Click to place the view.
