Background

Earlier versions of SolidWorks provide multiple ways to assign appearances in different contexts. Starting in Version 2009, appearances are unified so that an assigned appearance looks similar regardless of the context.

In Version 2010, opening an older model initiates a conversion to the newer unified appearance system. You can choose one appearance or retain both appearances by using display states.

Version Appearance Types
2007 and earlier You can assign two sets of appearances:
  • In SolidWorks, you can apply a standard color or a standard texture.
  • With PhotoWorks enabled, you can apply and view PhotoWorks materials.
2008 You can assign two sets of appearances:
  • In SolidWorks, you can apply a standard color or a standard texture.
  • With RealView enabled, you can apply and view RealView appearances.
2009 Appearances are unified. You apply and view the same appearance regardless of context.
2010 Appearances are unified. Use display states to view the model with different appearances.
