Updating the Materials Database from the Web

If you are behind a firewall or need IT assistance with modifying your SolidWorks installation, you can download materials updates from the Web.

  1. With a part open, in the FeatureManager design tree, right-click Material FM_material.gif and select Edit Material.
  2. In the Material dialog box, in the left pane, click Sustainability Extras.

    The Properties tab in the right pane shows the latest version of the GaBi Sustainability Database and when you last checked for updates.

  3. Click the Check online listing link.
  4. Close the Material dialog box and close SolidWorks.
  5. On the Download the Latest GaBi LCA Database page, read the description of the latest changes to the materials database.
  6. If you have an earlier database and want to update it, click Download latest GBM File.
  7. In the File Download dialog box, click Save.
  8. Navigate to the directory where SolidWorks is installed, by default C:\Program Files\SolidWorks Corp\SolidWorks and click Save.
  9. When the download completes, click Open.
  10. Extract gabiswengine.gbm to C:\ProgramData\SolidWorks\SolidWorks release\Sustainability.

    If the ProgramData folder is not visible, on the Windows menu bar click Organize > Folder and search options . On the View tab, set the folder options so that you can view hidden files and folders.

  11. Click Yes to confirm that you want to overwrite the earlier version of the database.
