Displaying Mass Properties

You can display mass properties for CAD files (except SolidWorks files) or eDrawings part and assembly files. You can also set the units and precision for calculating the mass properties. In assemblies, the properties are calculated for the complete assembly, not individual components.

This information is specific to one or more CAD systems. See the SolidWorks eDrawings Functionality Matrix for availability information.

To display mass properties:

  1. Click Mass Properties Tool_Mass_Properties.gif or Tools > Mass Properties.

The Mass Properties dialog box lists:

    Material
Density If a material is not specified, density is assumed to be 1.00 grams per cubic millimeter.
    Mass
    Volume
    Surface area

  2. Under Length unit, specify:
    • Length unit for calculating the properties. Corresponding mass units are used (grams with millimeters, pounds with inches, etc.)
    • Decimal places (0 to 8) for precision of the values.

    The mass properties update dynamically.

  3. Click OK.
