Configuring the Convert Task

You configure the Convert task provided by the SOLIDWORKS Task Add-in to specify the output type, map data card variables, and set the naming convention and destination for converted files.

You can configure the conversion properties so that the conversion occurs silently when executed or so that a user who initiates the conversion task can select all or some of the conversion properties.

To navigate in the dialog box, click a feature in the left pane to configure it or click Back and Next.

This procedure describes the options that are unique to file conversion:
  • Creating a New Task describes options that are common to all tasks enabled by the SOLIDWORKS Task Add-in.
  • Configuring the Print Task describes the options that are available for printing.
  • Configuring the Design Checker Task describes the options available for design verification using standards files created in the SOLIDWORKS Design Checker add-in.

To configure the Convert task:

  1. Expand Tasks and click Convert.
  2. In the Convert - Properties dialog box, in the left pane, click Execution Method.
  3. Select the computers that can be used to execute the task and how task execution is initiated.

If you want conversion to occur silently, when triggered by a state change for example, must let the system choose the computer to execute the task or execute the task on the computer where it is initiated.

  4. Click Conversion Settings to select the format for converted files or let the task command prompt the user to select the format.

Click Conversion Options to display the format's Advanced Options dialog box if the selected file format supports advanced options.

  5. On the Configurations tab, select which configurations are converted when converting models.

Select Allow the user to change this setting to let users who run the conversion command change this setting.

This option is available for all settings on the Conversion Settings page.

  6. On the Sheets tab, select which sheets are converted when converting drawings, and how to handle multi-sheet output.
  7. Under Source file references, specify the version of referenced files to convert.
  8. Click File Card to map variables from the source file's data card to the output file's data card.
  9. Click Output File Details to specify the output file name format and destination.

You can allow users to change this path.

You can also use this page to:

    • Define a path to save a second output file.
    • Create a reference from the destination file to the source file.
    • Specify whether the converted files overwrite existing files of the same name or are created as new versions.
    • Change the location of the error log folder.
    • Display the Advanced Scripting Options dialog box where you can modify the script that executes the command.

  10. Click OK.
