Configuring the Print Task

You configure the Print task provided by the SOLIDWORKS Task Add-in to specify the computer, printer, and print settings to use.

You can configure the print properties so that the task runs silently when executed or so that a user who initiates the task can select all or some of the printer properties.

To navigate in the dialog box, click a feature in the left pane to configure it or click Back and Next.

This procedure describes the options that are unique to file printing:
  • Creating a New Task describes options that are common to all tasks enabled by the SOLIDWORKS Task Add-in.
  • Configuring the Convert Task describes the options that are available for file conversion.
  • Configuring the Design Checker Task describes the options available for design verification using standards files created in the SOLIDWORKS Design Checker add-in.

To configure the Print task:

  1. Expand Tasks and double-click Print.
  2. In the Print - Properties dialog box, in the left pane, click Execution Method.
  3. Select the computers that can be used to execute the task and how task execution is initiated.

If you want printing to be done silently, when triggered by a state change for example,, you must let the system choose the computer to execute the task or execute the task on the computer where it is initiated.

  4. Click Printer.
  5. Select one:
    • Always use the following printer name

Select a printer from the list of available local printers.

If the task will be executed on a server without access to the listed printers, type a printer name.
    • Prompt the user with the following options
Specify printers that users can choose from.
With Always use the following printer name selected, select a printer, and copy and paste the name.
    • Select printer based on paper size

For each Paper Size to be printed, click under Printer Name and specify the name of the printer to use.

  6. In the left pane, click Paper Size and Orientation to specify defaults for paper size and orientation.
  7. Select Allow the user to change this setting to let users who run the print command change the settings.

This option is available for other printing settings.

  8. Click Margins to specify paper margins and optional headers and footers, or have the print command prompt users for these values.
  9. Click Files to specify how to handle referenced files and set up a folder for error logs.
  10. On the Files page, click Advanced Scripting Options to view or modify the code that controls the task.

    Programming skills are recommended.

  11. Click Permissions to give users and groups permission to initiate the task.
  12. Click OK.
