Printing Issues

If you have problems printing, first determine if the problem is with SolidWorks or with the printer.

Task Details
Try Print Preview from the Print menu.
  • Preview correct. The problem is with the printer.
  • Preview incorrect:
    • Report the problem to the SolidWorks' reseller.
    • Contact the printer vendor's technical support.
Printer fails with SolidWorks.
  • Check printing from other applications to verify it is a problem with SolidWorks.
  • Print from another computer.
  • Check Page Setup in the File menu.

To check page settings:

  1. Click File > Print.
  2. On the Page Setup dialog box, verify the settings.
  3. Set Resolution and Scale Properties to 100%.
If you are using High Quality (for Drawings), SolidWorks determines the optimum resolution, based on printer and paper size combinations. If this causing a problem, set the scale to 100%.
Printer fails with all applications.
  • Install the printer as described by the manufacturer.
  • Load the driver included with the printer.
  • From the Windows Start menu, open Help and Support, and go through the Printing and faxing troubleshooting wizard.
  • Test the printer by printing a test page.

To print a test page:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, open Printer and Faxes folder.
  2. Right-click the printer and click Properties.
  3. Print a test page.
