List External References for Parts and Features

This dialog box lists the external references of components or features created in the context of an assembly and the external references of various types of derived parts. You can lock, unlock, or break the external references.

To open this dialog box:

In the FeatureManager design tree, right-click the feature, component, body, or part and click List External Refs.

Part or Assembly Displays the path and name of the part or assembly in which the component or feature was created.
Configuration Select the configuration of the referenced component to use for a derived part.

Reference List (read-only)

Feature Lists each in-context item (sketches, features, and so on) in the selected part.
Data Describes the type of data used to create the item (converted edge or face, converted or offset sketch entity, body, and so on).
Status

In context

The feature is solved and up-to-date.

Out of context

The feature is not solved or not up-to-date because the update path is not available. To solve and update the feature, open the assembly that contains the update path.

Dangling

The referenced entity has been changed in a way that invalidates the reference. For example, if a feature on the dependent component was extruded up to a surface on the referenced component, and that surface has subsequently been removed from the referenced component, then the reference is dangling.

Locked

The reference has been locked, so it no longer updates and you cannot add any new references to the feature. You can unlock the reference by clicking Unlock All below.

Broken

The reference has been permanently broken and no longer updates. You can add new references to the feature.

Referenced Entity Describes the actual item being used, and the name of the document that contains the item.
Feature’s Component Displays the name of the component in which the affected feature exists. This information is displayed only when the Referenced Entity is in a different component in an assembly; this column does not apply to derived parts.

Options

List Broken References Includes broken references in the list above. Otherwise, they are not listed.
Insert the features of original part(s) if references are broken (For derived parts only.) When you click Break All for references in a derived part:
  • If this option is selected, features from the original part are added to the derived part, so you can edit the features in the derived part independently from the features in the original part.
  • If this option is cleared, then the derived part is created as a single solid body, with no editable features.
Break All Permanently breaks the external references for this item.
Lock All Locks the external references for this item. The references no longer update and you cannot add any new references to the item.
Unlock All Unlocks the reference so you can add new references or edit the existing references.
