List External References for Assemblies

This dialog box lists all components within the hierarchy of the selected assembly or subassembly that contain external references. You can lock, unlock, or break external references for all components listed or for just the ones you select.

To open this dialog box:

In the FeatureManager design tree, right-click the top-level assembly or a subassembly and click List External Refs.

Assembly Displays the path and name of the selected assembly.
Nested View Indents the file names based on their parent/child relationships.
Flat View Positions all names at the left margin.

Reference List (read-only)

Components Lists all components within the hierarchy of the selected assembly that contain external references.
Status

In context

The feature is solved and up-to-date.

Out of context

The feature is not solved or not up-to-date because the update path is not available. To solve and update the feature, open the assembly that contains the update path.

Dangling

The referenced entity has been changed in a way that invalidates the reference. For example, if a feature on the dependent component was extruded up to a surface on the referenced component, and that surface has subsequently been removed from the referenced component, then the reference is dangling.

Locked

The reference has been locked, so it no longer updates and you cannot add any new references to the feature. You can unlock the reference by clicking Unlock All below.

Broken

The reference has been permanently broken and no longer updates. You can add new references to the feature.

Options

List Broken References Includes components with broken references in the list above. Otherwise, they are not listed.
Insert the features of original part(s) if references are broken (For derived parts only.) When you click Break All for references in a derived part:
  • If this option is selected, features from the original part are added to the derived part, so you can edit the features in the derived part independently from the features in the original part.
  • If this option is cleared, then the derived part is created as a single solid body, with no editable features.
Replace broken sketch relations with fixed relations Replaces broken sketch relations with sketch relations that do not reference the assembly.
Break All / Break Selected Permanently breaks the external references for all items or selected items.
Lock All / Lock Selected Locks the external references for all items or selected items. The references no longer update and you cannot add any new references to the items.
Unlock All / Unlock Selected Unlocks the references for all items or selected items so you can add new references or edit the existing references.
