Permissions

Enterprise PDM permissions control the File Explorer operations you can perform on files and folders.

Your Enterprise PDM administrator can grant or deny permissions to individual users or groups. Permissions can be global or specific to folders or files.

Enterprise PDM has the following permission types:
  • Administrative permissions control access to Administration tool features, such as managing users, data cards, and workflows. Even if you have no administrative permissions, you can use the Administration tool to change passwords and user settings. (see the SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM Administration Tool Help).
  • Folder permissions control access to individual folders in the vault. For example, an administrator can grant engineers full write access (check out, delete, and so on) to an Engineering folder but grant only read access to a Marketing folder.
  • File permissions control access to specific files. Users granted the required right by the administrator can set permissions from the File Permissions tab of the Properties dialog box to control whether other users can see individual files.
  • State permissions control access to files in a given workflow state. To check out a file in a given state, you need both folder and state permissions.
  • Transition permissions determine who can move files from one workflow state to another.

SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM File Explorer Help assumes you have full permissions. If you do not have access to a command that you need, contact your administrator. See SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM Administration Tool Help for details on permissions.
