Lip/Groove PropertyManager

Set properties for lip and groove fastening features.

To open the Lip/Groove PropertyManager:

Create a lip or groove fastening feature by clicking Lip/Groove (Fastening Features toolbar) or Insert > Fastening Feature > Lip/Groove.

Body/Part Selection

Create a lip, a groove, or both.

Groove body Select a body or component on which to create the groove.
Lip body Select a body or component on which to create the lip.
Direction (optional)

Select a plane, a planar face, or a straight edge to define the direction of the lip and groove.

If all the selected faces on which to create the lip and groove are planar and have the same normal, the default direction is normal to the planar faces.

Groove Selection

Grooves remove material from the model.


No groove Groove with material removed from the inner edge.

  Tangent propagation Extends the selection to tangent faces.
select_edges.png Edges Select the inner or outer edges. This is where the groove removes material.
  Tangent propagation Extends the selection to tangent edges.
Groove parameters  
  Show preview  
  Jump gaps Allows for adjacent geometry, for example, where ribs join the sidewalls of the part. In this example, select Jump gaps to allow ribs to adjoin lip and groove faces.

Lip Selection

Lips add material to the model.


No lip Lip with material added to the inner edge.
select_face_planar.png Faces Select faces on which to create the lip.
  Tangent propagation Extends the selection to tangent faces.
select_edges.png Edges Select the inner or outer lip edges. This is where the lip adds material.
  Tangent propagation Extends the selection to tangent edges.

  Maintain existing wall faces See description under Parameters.

Parameters

This section appears when you select bodies to create both a lip and groove. Set the parameters that control the lip and groove and the interface between them.



Link matched values Equates these values:
  • Lip draft angle to the groove draft angle
  • Groove width to the lip width plus the spacing between the lip and groove
Show preview  
Maintain existing wall faces If you create a lip on a model wall that has draft, this option maintains the draft when possible and extends the existing wall face to the top of the lip. If you clear this option, the software adds faces.

The software maintains the draft and the existing wall to the top of the lip.

The software does not maintain the draft and adds a face to create the lip.

Favorite

Manage a list of favorites that you can reuse in models.

Apply Defaults/No Favorites Resets to No Favorite Selected and the default settings.
Add or Update Favorite To update a favorite, edit the properties in the PropertyManager, select the name in Favorites, click , and enter a new or existing name.
Delete Favorite  
Save Favorite  
Load Favorite Click this option, browse to a folder, and select a favorite.
