Feature Parameter vs. Volume-based Feature Simplification

When you apply the Simplify Utility, you can determine features to simplify by comparing feature parameters, or by comparing feature volume.

This table describes the formulas used to determine if a feature is a candidate for simplification.

  Simplify Utility Criteria Comparison Formula
Feature Parameter Identifies a feature for simplification under the following condition:
P < ³√(Vmin * S)
  • P is the value of the main feature parameter.
An example of the main parameter for a hole is its diameter, while for a fillet, its main parameter is the fillet radius.
  • Vmin is the minimum volume of the body associated with the feature.
  • S is the simplification factor that you select in the Simplify Utility.
Volume Based Identifies a feature for simplification under the following condition:
V < (CV) * S
  • V is the feature volume.
  • CV is the part or assembly volume.
  • S is the simplification factor that you select in the Simplify Utility.
