Derive Component Part creates a part from an assembly component.
Derived parts created this way include any features created in the context of the assembly. For example, you can create a cavity in a mold assembly, then derive and cut the pieces of the mold. The derived parts maintain the necessary references to the components in the assembly. However, you cannot insert the derived component part back into the assembly.
If you need to include assembly features, use a derived component part. Otherwise, use a base part to optimize system performance.
The component must be fully resolved (not lightweight) before you can create the derived part.
To create a derived part from an assembly component:
- In an assembly document, select a component.
- Click .
The derived part is opened in a new part window and the Insert Part PropertyManager appears.
- Under Transfer, select any combination of items from the seed component to be included in the derived part. You can include items such as custom properties, sketches, and model dimensions.
- Optionally, if you want to independently edit the features of the derived part without affecting the original component, under Link, click Break link to original part.
You can also break the link to the original part later by listing the derived part's external references and selecting Break All.
Once you break the link to the original, you cannot restore it.
