Editing Assembly Components

From an assembly, you can open a component in a separate window to make changes. When you switch back to the assembly window, you rebuild the assembly to incorporate the changes.

You can also edit components in the context of the assembly. See Editing a Part in an Assembly.

To edit an assembly component in a separate window:

  1. In the assembly window, do one of the following:
    • In the FeatureManager design tree, click or right-click the component and click Open Part menu_Open_Part.gif or Open Assembly menu_Open_Part.gif.
    • In the graphics area:
      • Click or right-click a part and click Open Part menu_Open_Part.gif.
      • Right-click a subassembly, click Select Subassembly, and click Open Assembly menu_Open_Part.gif.

The component opens in a separate window.

  2. In the component window, make changes to the component.
  3. Save and close the component.

The application switches back to the assembly window. A message prompts you to rebuild the assembly.
