VaultAdmin Search

On the Search tab in the VaultAdmin, you can enable indexing for the vault metadata. Indexing increases performance when you search the vault for documents, especially when you have configuration-specific properties for many documents.

When indexing is enabled, all document revisions are searched. When indexing is disabled, only the latest revisions are searched.

To use the indexing functionality, you must install Microsoft® Indexing Service.

Microsoft Indexing Service should be enabled only when the server is on a dedicated computer because indexing uses system idle time. Even on dedicated servers, Microsoft Indexing Service can take time to index recent metadata changes and searches can produce false zero return values.

General

Enable Indexing Service Search Available if a catalog has been built for the vault. If you have not installed Microsoft Indexing Service, this option and the options for building and removing the catalog are unavailable.

Operations

Build Catalog Creates a new Microsoft Indexing Service catalog. During this operation, the existing catalog is removed, then all the documents' metadata is stored in .pdmi files under the Index files folder, which allows the Microsoft Indexing Service to begin indexing values (storing all properties) in the SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM catalog.
Remove Catalog Deletes the Workgroup PDM catalog and the index (.pdmi) files.

Workgroup PDM Catalog Status

Catalog is not up to date Indicates that indexing is not updated and cannot be searched or the Microsoft Indexing Service is still indexing .pdmi files.
Catalog is out of date Indicates that vault metadata has changed while the Microsoft Indexing Service was turned off. The vault administrator must rebuild the catalog.
The Workgroup PDM catalog does not exist Indicates that the catalog has not been built yet.
Total documents count Number of files in catalog.
Documents to index Number of files that need to be indexed.
Indexing is not used if more than 32 documents appear in Documents to index.
Refresh Updates the Workgroup PDM Catalog Status items.

Folders

Catalog location Location of the Microsoft Indexing Service server catalog files. The default location is <vault_root_folder>\data.
Index files folder The folder that contains all the .pdmi files. These files are processed by the Microsoft Indexing Service to create the catalog. The default location is <vault_root_folder>\data\MSSearch.
