Search cards can include a variable search control that lets users create searches based on values stored in variables.
To add a variable card control:
Click Variable Search 
(Control toolbar).
When the search card is displayed in the SOLIDWORKS PDM Search utility, the user selects one or more variables, comparison operations, and values on which to base the search.
