Override Mass Properties Dialog Box

Assign values for mass, center of mass, and moments of inertia to override the calculated values.

To open this dialog box:

  • Click Tools > Evaluate > Mass Properties and then, in the Mass Properties dialog box, click Override Mass Properties.

Mass

Override mass Sets a value to override the calculated value for the mass of the model.

Center of Mass

Override center of mass Sets values to override the calculated values for the center of mass of the model.
X, Y, Z Sets coordinate values.
As defined in Sets the coordinate system. Select one:

model coordinate system (default)

Uses the default coordinate system of the part or assembly.

user_defined

Uses a coordinate system previously defined by you.

Moments of Inertia

Override moments of inertia Sets values to override the calculated values for the moments of inertia of the model. Select an entry method and set values.
Enter principal axes and principal moments of inertia Principal axes orientation Sets values for:

Ix

Iy

Iz

Principal moments of inertia Sets values for:

Px

Py

Pz

Enter reference frame and moments of inertia Reference Frame Select one:

Center of Mass/ComponentXYZ

model coordinate system (default)

Uses the default coordinate system of the part or assembly.

user_defined

Uses a coordinate system previously defined by you.

Principal moments of inertia Set values for:

Jxx, Jxy, Jxz

Jyx, Jyy, Jyz

Jzx, Jzy, Jzz

The sum of the moments of inertia about two perpendicular axes must be greater than or equal to the moment of inertia about the third axis.
