Cooling System Boundary Conditions

Cooling systems regulate the temperature of the mold, and are passageways within the body of a mold through which a cooling medium, typically water, steam or oil, circulates.

Four methods are available for representing the behavior of the cooling system(s).

Only one method can be active in a plastics simulation; if more than one methods coexist in a simulation, only the highest priority method is active.

Coolant Flow Field

Highest priority method. It provides the highest accuracy and versatility, and requires the longest computational time.

Cool Pipe

Second highest priority method. It requires the definition of the cooling system from a sketch using the Cooling System Design tool. It requires intermediate speed, and provides intermediate accuracy between the Coolant Flow Field and Coolant Entrance methods.

Coolant Entrance

Third highest priority method. It is the easiest and fastest option for a cooling system simulation.

Mold Wall Temperature

Lowest priority method. It does not require any cooling simulation, but you simply specify temperatures for selected mold wall surfaces instead.
