About Units

The software allows you to choose the units for defining analysis features and viewing the results. Each PropertyManager or Dialog box, that requires input with units, allows you to use the default or different units.

For example, you can choose SI as your preferred system of units, specify pressure in psi, displacements in millimeters, view the displacement results in inches, and stress results in N/m2.

You can specify your preferred units for length, temperature, angular acceleration, and stress independently. For example, you can select Metric, which uses centimeters as the unit of length, as your preferred system but choose inches and Fahrenheit as the length and temperature units, respectively.
SOLIDWORKS Simulation can handle numerical inputs in the range of 3.4e-38 to 3.4e38 for the SI, International System of Units. It stores all data in single precision floating-point format.

Setting Default Units

To set default units:

  1. Click Simulation > Options.
  2. On the Default Options tab, select Units.
  3. Under Unit system, select a unit system. The selected unit system is used by default for quantities other than the quantities specified in Units.
  4. Under Units, select specific units for Length/Displacement, Temperature, Angular velocity, and Pressure/Stress.
  5. Click OK.
