Face Fillets

Blends non-adjacent, non-continuous faces.

Face Set 1 and Face Set 2 selected Face fillet applied

Items To Fillet

Face Set 1 Select the first face or set of faces in the graphics area to blend.
Face Set 2 Select the faces in the graphics area to blend with Face Set 1.
If you select more than one face for either Face Set 1 or Face Set 2, each set of faces must be smoothly connected for the face fillet to properly propagate to all faces.
Show selection toolbar Shows/hides selection accelerator toolbars
Tangent propagation Extends the fillet to all faces that are tangent to the selected face. Example: Tangent Propagation
Full preview Displays a fillet preview of all edges.
Partial preview Displays a fillet preview of one edge only. Press the A key to view each fillet preview in turn.
No Preview Improves rebuild time with complex models.

Fillet Parameters

The Fillet Method you select determines which parameters are available.
Symmetric Creates a symmetric fillet defined by the radius.
Chord Width Creates a fillet that is defined by the chord width.

Face fillet defined by radius

Face fillet defined by chord width

Asymmetric Creates an asymmetric fillet defined by two radii.
Hold Line Creates a face fillet whose shape is determined by a part edge or projected split line.

Fillet Parameters - Symmetric

Radius Sets the fillet radius.
Profile Sets the profile type to fillet. The profile defines the cross sectional shape of the fillet.

Circular

Conic Rho pm_rho.gif

Sets the ratio that defines the weight of the curve. Enter a value between 0 and 1.

Conic Radius

Sets the radius of curvature at the shoulder point along the curve.

Curvature continuous

Creates a smoother curvature between adjacent surfaces.

Curvature continuous fillets are smoother than standard fillets because there is no jump in curvature at the boundary.

Fillet Parameters - Chord Width

Chord Width Sets the chord width of the fillet.
Profile Sets the profile type to fillet. The profile defines the cross sectional shape of the fillet.

Circular

Curvature continuous

Creates a smoother curvature between adjacent surfaces.

Curvature continuous fillets are smoother than standard fillets because there is no jump in curvature at the boundary.

Fillet Parameters - Asymmetric

Distance 1 Sets the radius for one side of the fillet.
Distance 2 Sets the radius for the other side of the fillet.
Reverse Direction

Reverses which side of the fillet Distance 1 and Distance 2 define.

Profile Sets the profile type to fillet. The profile defines the cross sectional shape of the fillet.

Elliptic

Conic Rho pm_rho.gif

Sets the ratio that defines the weight of the curve. Enter a value between 0 and 1.

Curvature continuous

Creates a smoother curvature between adjacent surfaces.

Curvature continuous fillets are smoother than standard fillets because there is no jump in curvature at the boundary.

Fillet Parameters - Hold Line

Hold Line Edges Select an edge on the part or a projected split line on a face as a boundary that determines the face fillet shape. The radius of the fillet is driven by the distance between the hold line and the edge to fillet.

Faces to fillet

Hold lines

Face fillet applied

Projected split line as hold line

Face fillet applied

Profile Sets the profile type to fillet. The profile defines the cross sectional shape of the fillet.

Circular

Curvature continuous

Creates a smoother curvature between adjacent surfaces.

Curvature continuous fillets are smoother than standard fillets because there is no jump in curvature at the boundary.

Fillet Options

Select through faces Enables selection of edges through faces that hide edges.
Constant width Creates a fillet with a constant width.

Face fillet without constant width

Face fillet with constant width

Help point Resolves an ambiguous selection when it may not be clear where the face blend should occur. Click in Help Point Vertex, then click a vertex on the side where you want the face fillet. A fillet is created at the location closer to the Help point.
Trim Surfaces (Surfaces only) Select one of the following:

Trim and attach

Trims the filleted faces and knits the surfaces into one surface body.

Don't trim or attach

Adds a new fillet surface, but does not trim the faces or knit the surfaces.
