Settings Policy Options

Settings

Policy Description
Configure Broadcast Port Defines the port used for broadcast. By default, it is port 3030. You should not have to change it. This port must match the archive server port.
Disable Broadcast Prevents users from using broadcast to find archive servers on the local subnet. Only manually added servers are used. This policy is useful when you need to verify that a specific archive server is used. See Distributing a Vault View Using Active Directory.
Disable Automatic View Refresh Broadcast typically updates (refreshes) Item Explorer and File Explorer views when something is modified (renamed, checked out, and so on) from another SOLIDWORKS PDM client. Use this policy to disable listening to those updates, preventing the views from being updated automatically. Users can refresh their data manually by pressing F5.

Login Manager Settings

Policy Description
Enable Alternative Servers If a vault is replicated, the login dialog box lists the archive servers hosting the replicated vault that the user can connect to. This policy lets users work on multiple machines that host a replicated vault. Only the servers that are broadcast are listed. Optionally, include the server in the Add alternative servers policy.
Start SOLIDWORKS PDM Login Manager at Windows Login Set this policy when you distribute views with the Automatic View Setup policy. It starts the SOLIDWORKS PDM login manager at login so that views can be added.
Add Alternative Servers The alternative servers list contains available broadcasted servers hosting the replicated vault. If the broadcast does not list the server, you might have to add it manually using this policy. Add the server name as the Value Name, and server port as the Value.

View Setup Settings

Policy Description
Disable Add Server Prevents the user from manually adding servers to the list of vault sources in the View Setup wizard. Use this policy in combination with Disable Broadcast and Select Server page to restrict clients to a specified set of servers.
Select Attach Page Controls the Select Location screen of the View Setup wizard. Use this setting when adding views silently.
Location

Sets the default vault attach location. Use in terminal services environments to create vault views in a specific directory, typically the user's home drive.

Type

Sets the default vault attach type. A restricted Windows user is not usually allowed to add vault views per computer.

Select Server Page Controls the Select Archive Server screen of the View Setup wizard. Adds default archive server names to the list of servers to choose from in the wizard. Type the name of the archive server and the port (3030) as Value. Use in combination with Disable Broadcast and Disable Add Server to force clients to use a specified set of servers. Also use this policy when broadcast prevents archive servers from being listed in the View Setup wizard, for example, over a WAN.
Automatic View Setup Use this policy to distribute vault views to client computers. Add the vault name and vault ID for the views to announce. When using Setup views silent, the views are added without any user interaction. To ensure that the view is created in the correct location, define the Select Attach Page policy. If the client computers reside in different subnets and cannot receive broadcasts, define the Select Server Page policy.

Explorer Settings

Policy Description
Configure Thumbnails Defines the size and color depth of thumbnails created on the archive server.
Drawing Extensions When you clear the Bill Of Material view option Include selected, drawing files are not considered the top node, and drawings and assemblies are excluded. Use this option to add other extensions that should be treated as drawings in the BOM view. SLDDRW and IDW files are treated as drawings by default.
