DXF/DWG Import Wizard - Drawing Layer Mapping

On the Drawing Layer Mapping screen of the DXF/DWG Import Wizard, specify the layers of the drawing to be imported to the drawing sheet or sheet format. Adjust the drawing preview and edit the names of the drawing sheets in the Preview section.

To display the DXF/DWG Import Wizard - Drawing Layer Mapping screen, select one of the following DXF/DWG file import methods in the first wizard screen and click Next:

  • Create new SOLIDWORKS drawing > Convert to SOLIDWORKS entities
  • Create new SOLIDWORKS drawing > Embed as a sheet in native DXF/DWG format
No Drawing Layer Mapping screen is available if you select Import MDT data from file. A different Drawing Layer Mapping screen appears when you select either of the Import to a new part options.

You can select layers to be imported to the drawing sheet and layers to be imported to the sheet format. Layers cannot be directed to both the drawing and the sheet format.

All layers are imported when you select Create new SOLIDWORKS drawing > Embed as a sheet in native DXF/DWG format.
All selected layers Displays all the layers selected for either the drawing sheet or sheet format.
Layers selected for drawing sheet Select the layers to import to the drawing sheet.
Layers selected for sheet format Select the layers to import to the sheet format.
Model tab Displays a preview of the model space from the imported model. This tab is selected by default when you import MDT files.
Layout tab Displays a preview of the drawing layout. The tabs match the tabs shown when you have the DXF or DWG file open inside the AutoCAD, DraftSight, or Mechanical Desktop application.
Import this sheet as Edit the default name for a drawing sheet. The name appears in SOLIDWORKS on the sheet tab and in the FeatureManager design tree.
