Method Selection

Methods for machined parts include:

  • Machining
  • Plastic
  • Casting
  • 3D Printing

If the part is a single body weldment, then the Weldment option is available. If the part is sheet metal, then the method options are Sheet Metal and Machined Plate.

Machining

Analyzes the part for machining features such as milled pockets and drilled holes, and determine the amount of time it takes to remove that material from a stock body.

Plastic

Estimates the amount of time it takes to fill a mold with plastic based on the volume and estimated cooling time of the plastic.

Casting

Estimates the amount of time it takes to fill a mold based on the volume and cycle time that is user-specified.

3D Printing

Analyzes the part and its orientation to determine the number of layers required to print the part, and then estimates the amount of time required to print the part.

Weldment

Treats the part as an extruded weldment and determines the cost of machining based on the extruded profile rather than machining from a block or plate.
