You may need to make a
normal cut at a specific location in a part. Below illustrates why you might make a normal
cut with the Extent versus Offset plane
parameters.
Consider that you have a slanted
sheet metal part or body and a tube that needs to be welded on top of the part. This
example shows a section view for illustration.

perfectly closed corner on one side and a large gap on the other side.
With this approach, you need to weld a lot of material into the gap to
connect the tube to the part. |
The Offset plane lets you
select the sheet metal reference as the top face and set the offset to
0. The resulting contour lets you create a weld with less effort and
material. |
