Perspective and Rendering

When you create a PhotoView 360 rendering, for the most realistic results, add a camera with perspective or at least turn on perspective view.

Except when you explicitly want to render using an orthographic view, viewing a model from a perspective view is more realistic. Our eyes never view real world objects in an orthographic view. A perspective view allows PhotoView 360 to more accurately calculate reflections, shadows, and lighting. In addition, a view through a camera with perspective gives you the highest possible level of control for your viewing position, field of view, and focal length.

The following example shows a simple block with a brushed surface finish that is illuminated by a directional light.

Without perspective, the effect of the directional light is not realistically represented in the brushed material.

With perspective enable, the rendering effect of the light on the block is more accurate.

Accessing Perspective Views for Renderings

The Use Perspective Views in Renderings dialog box opens if you click PhotoView 360 > Preview Window or PhotoView 360 > Final Render.

This dialog box lets you:

  • Add a Camera

Cancels the current rendering and opens the Camera PropertyManager to let you add a camera.

To continue rendering using the camera, click Preview Window, Integrated Preview, or Final Render.

  • Turn on Perspective View

Turns on perspective view and lets you continue with the rendering.

  • Continue without Camera or Perspective

Continues the current rendering without turning on perspective or adding a camera.

To avoid interrupting your work, the Use Perspective Views in Renderings dialog box appears only once per session, whether you add a camera, turn on perspective view, or continue without changing your settings.

To suppress the display of the dialog box for future sessions, click Don't show again. You can restore the display of the dialog box by clicking Tools > Options > System Options > Messages/Errors/Warnings . Under Dismissed messages, select "Use Perspective Views in Renderings".
