Preserved Region PropertyManager

Add preserved regions to your model that will not be modified during a topology optimization.

You can freeze regions of your model that are contacting other parts, such as regions that are used to support the model and regions that form bearing surfaces. These regions do not participate in a topology optimization and remain unchanged.

To access the Preserved Region PropertyManager:

  • Right-click Manufacturing Controls, and select Add Preserved Region .
Faces for Set 2 Select faces that will remain unchanged during optimization.
Preserved Area Depth Set the depth of the region that will remain unchanged during optimization.

Enter the preserved region's depth with the desired units.
Geometry Preview Select to view the specified geometry that is preserved during optimization. A Geometry Preview of a selected face with preserved area depth is shown.
Mesh Element Preview Select to view the mesh elements of the specified geometry that are preserved during optimization. A Mesh Element Preview of a selected face with preserved area depth is shown.

Faces where you apply loads and boundary conditions are treated as frozen regions automatically. Select Regions with loads and fixtures in Topology > Options tab.
