Symbol Library Dialog Box

Use the Symbol Library dialog box to add symbols to annotations. You can insert symbols provided by the SOLIDWORKS software and additional symbols from the Windows Character Map dialog box.

To access the Symbol Library dialog box, do one of the following:

  • In the Dimension PropertyManager, under Dimension Text, click More Symbols PM_note_Add_Symbol.gif and click More Symbols.
  • In the Note PropertyManager, under Text Format, click Add Symbol PM_note_Add_Symbol.gif and click More Symbols.
  • In the Weld Symbol Properties dialog box, click Weld Symbol and click More Symbols.
  • In the Geometric Tolerance PropertyManager, under Text, click More.
  • In the Datum Features PropertyManager, under Text, click More.
  Categories Lists the categories in the Symbol Library.

The top section of the list shows categories that you have used recently.

  Symbols Shows the symbols for the categories you select from the Categories list.

The current symbols are those in the category you used most recently.

When you mouse over a symbol, a tooltip shows the name of the symbol and the symbol's tag.

/ Keep window open to insert multiple symbols (Not available when you open the Symbols Library from the Weld Symbol Properties dialog box.)

When enabled (), holds the Symbols Library dialog box open and adds the Apply button. Symbols you add to the Symbols to insert field are inserted in a single action when you click Apply. The dialog box remains open.

When disabled (), the Apply button is not present. You can still add multiple symbols to the Symbols to insert field, but when you add them to your document by clicking OK, the dialog box closes.

  Symbols to insert Lists symbols you select from the Symbols list and copy from the Character Map dialog box.
  File location (Read-only)

Shows the location specified for the Symbols Library file in Tools > Options > System Options > File Locations.

  Character Map (Not available when you open the Symbols Library from the Weld Symbol Properties dialog box.)

Opens the Windows Character Map dialog box, where you can copy symbols to paste them into the Symbols to insert field.

  Apply (Only available when you pin () the Symbols Library.)

Adds symbols from the Symbols to insert field to your document. The Symbols Library remains open.
