Feature Freeze and Configurations

When you freeze features in models with multiple configurations, the freeze bar is applied across all configurations.

Updating Configurations After the Initial Freeze

When you initially freeze features, each configuration needs to be fully rebuilt before you can activate it. For example, a configuration needs to be fully rebuilt before you can:
  • Activate the configuration in the part file
  • Create a view of the configuration in a drawing file

This initial full rebuild includes the features you are freezing, and can take a significant amount of time. Subsequent rebuilds exclude the frozen features and are quicker.

When you initially freeze features, the Update All Configurations dialog box opens and lets you choose to fully rebuild all configurations immediately, or fully rebuild each configuration individually as it is activated.

Updating Configurations After Changes

When you make changes, the freeze bar shortcut menu provides commands that control whether features are rebuilt in all configurations or in only the active configuration.

By default, Always Update All Configurations is on, so when you click Update Frozen Features, the features are rebuilt in all configurations. To rebuild only the active configuration, right-click the freeze bar and clear Always Update All Configurations.

At any time, you can manually rebuild all configurations by right-clicking the freeze bar and clicking Update All Configurations.
