Defining a Weld Check Plot

A Weld Check Plot displays the safety status of all edge weld connectors and lists the appropriate weld sizes to safely carry the loads.

  1. Create a static Simulation study.
  2. Define weld edge connectors in your document by right-clicking Connections and clicking Edge Weld.
  3. In the Edge Weld Connector PropertyManager, under Weld Sizing, check Estimated weld size.
    The software calculates the appropriate weld size for each connector, and compares its value with the value you enter in the Estimated weld size box.

    If the calculated weld throat is smaller than 1% of the terminated plate's thickness, the program calculates the weld throat equal to 1% of the terminated plate's thickness.

  4. After running the study, right-click Results and click Define Weld Check Plot.
  5. Click
    Connectors with calculated weld sizes smaller than the user-defined weld sizes are listed in the OK folder, and appear green in the graphics area.

    Connectors with calculated weld sizes larger than the user-defined weld sizes are listed in the Needs Attention folder and appear red in the graphics area. Consider resizing these connectors to pass the weld safety check.

  6. In the Weld Check Plot box, select a connector icon.
    The connector's callout appears in the graphics area. The callout displays the connector's safety status with calculated and estimated weld sizes.
