Publishing a Model to 3D PDF

You select a 3D PDF template, and then populate the 3D PDF with items you select, such as 3D views, notes, custom properties, and BOMs.

To publish a model to 3D PDF:

  1. Click Publish to 3D PDF (MBD toolbar or 3D Views tab).
  2. In the Template Selection dialog box, select a template and click OK.
    The Publish to 3D PDF PropertyManager opens. A preview of Page 1 of the 3D PDF is also displayed.
    • Each page in the 3D PDF has a corresponding page in the PropertyManager.
    • The number of pages and the options available depend on the template you selected.
  3. Under Primary & Thumbnail Views, click in the box and then select views from the 3D Views tab in the bottom pane.
    In the 3D PDF file, the first view in the list is shown in the Primary Viewport. Other views are added to the Thumbnail Carousel.
  4. If the template includes an independent viewport, under Independent Viewport, select a view.
  5. Under Accuracy:
    1. Select the level of accuracy. Options include Maximum, High, Medium, and Low.
    2. To apply Lossy Compression to the polygons, select Use lossy compression on tessellation.
  6. Under Attachments:
    1. To attach files to the 3D PDF, click Attach Files and browse to the files to include.
    2. To export the parts and assemblies, including PMI, in STEP 242 format, select Create and attach STEP 242.
  7. If the template includes a BOM table, under Output BOM Table, select a bill of material and select or clear items in Column List.
  8. Under Custom Property Fields, select custom property values to associate with fields in the document.
  9. Click .
  10. In the Save As dialog box, enter a file name or browse to a location to save the 3D PDF file. To display the 3D PDF file after saving, select View PDF after saving.
  11. Click Save.
    The 3D PDF file is saved in the location specified in File name.
