Loading HDR Environment Images

Loading a new HDR image into an environment replaces an old HDR image. After loading, you see the lighting in the scene change to use the light from the new HDR image.

An environment map is an image intended to entirely enclose a scene, either to provide a convincing background or to project real-world lighting or reflection data onto a model surface.

To load HDR environment images:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Click Project > Scenes > New HDR Environment.
    • Right-click in the 3D Viewport and click Add > New HDR Environment .
    • On the Scenes tab, right-click in the thumbnail window and click New HDR Environment.
    • On the Scenes tab, click Add , and click New HDR Environment

    • From File Explorer, you can drag an HDR Environment image onto the SOLIDWORKS Visualize 3D Viewport.
  2. In the dialog box, browse to an HDR image and click Open.
The HDR image loads into the project's environment.
