Split Members

You can split primary and secondary members by specifying references or dimensions.

For Reference type, you can select faces, reference planes, or members. For Dimension type, you can specify a dimension for length, direction vector, and the number of split member instances to create.

Splitting Members by Reference

To split members by reference:

  1. Open system_dir:\Users\Public\Public Documents\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKS 2020\samples\whatsnew\structure_system\split.SLDPRT.

  2. In the FeatureManager design tree, right-click Structure System2 and click Edit Feature .
  3. In the graphics area, select this member as shown.

    The Member Properties PropertyManager lists Member8 in Selected Members.

  4. Optional: Ctrl + select the two members above Member8 as shown in the graphics area.

    Member20 and Member16 are added to Selected Members.

  5. In the PropertyManager, click Split Member and select Based On Reference.
  6. In the graphics area, select the vertical member that intersects the horizontal members, as shown.

  7. Click .

Members 8, 20, and 16 split at their intersection of Member 15.

Do not exit Structure System mode. Keep the model open to continue with the next step.

Splitting Members by Dimension

To split members by dimension:

  1. In the graphics area, select the longest horizontal member as shown.

    The PropertyManager lists Member21 in Selected Members.

  2. In the PropertyManager, click Split Member and select Based On Dimension.
  3. Click Instance and enter 6.
  4. Click .
  5. In the FeatureManager design tree, expand Structure System2 and expand <iso><square tube><20 x 20 x 2>(3).

    Member21 lists the split instances from Member21_1 to Member21_6.
