Overview

Sync and Enterprise Sync batch convert 3D CAD files and other 3D formats into Composer formats. Sync and Enterprise Sync automatically incorporate design changes in geometry, metadata, and product structure directly into Composer content.

Both Sync and Enterprise Sync let you configure and perform conversions from the graphical user interface. Enterprise Sync also includes:

  • A command-line interface that lets you integrate with other software, such as product lifecycle management (PLM) systems. For details about the command-line interface, see the Composer Programming Guide.
  • The ability to run scheduled batch conversions.

Note: The features described in this guide apply to both Sync and Enterprise Sync unless otherwise noted.

Sync/Enterprise Sync Capabilities

  • Batch converts 3D CAD and other 3D data into Composer formats while controlling tessellation settings.
  • Automatically applies Right Manager settings.
  • Saves batch job settings to an XML file for future use.
  • Creates up to three levels of detail for the geometry used by Composer and Composer Player.
  • Creates a fully-shattered (exploded) Composer file structure that allows incremental content updates.
  • Publishes 2D raster and vector images from a Composer file or a set of predefined views.

Sync/Enterprise Sync Benefits

With Sync, changes in metadata, geometry, bills of materials (BOMs), and manufacturing information can be updated on the desktop in Composer deliverables, guaranteeing accurate and consistent information. To incorporate modifications to the digital product definition, other systems might require you to reconvert entire CAD assemblies, and they cannot always incorporate user annotations or modifications. With Sync, companies can minimize the time it takes to update their documentation by processing only changed data and automatically updating all Composer content.

Before Reading this Guide

You might need to refer to the following guides as you are learning to use Sync/Enterprise Sync.

Composer User's Guide Explains how to use Composer, a desktop content-creation system that enables the reuse of digital 3D data from CAD and other sources. Easy-to-use, Composer lets you create quickly assembly and disassembly procedures, technical illustrations, interactive 3D animations, training materials, marketing materials, sales tools, and more.
Composer Programming Guide Describes the Composer application programming interfaces (APIs): Composer API, Composer Players Plug-in API, Composer Player Studio API. Also describes the Composer command line interface which lets you access Composer and Sync features from the command line.
