Injection Location PropertyManager

Injection locations introduce polymer material at the specified melt temperature into the cavity.

To open the Injection Location PropertyManager:

  • In the PlasticsManager, right-click Boundary Conditions, and click Injection Location .

If your model includes only a cavity, you define injection locations directly on the cavity. In this case, the effects of the injection system and gate geometry on the polymer temperature and flow are not properly represented.

If your model includes an injection system (gates, runners, and sprue), you can define an injection location at the sprue inlet associated with the runner domain. You can also optionally define control valves at one or more gates.

You can define multiple injection locations for each cavity or associated runner domain, but you must have a minimum of one injection location per cavity or associated runner domain.

Type

Geometry Face

Positions an injection location on a selected face. Available for solid analysis procedure only.

Point Positions an injection location on a selected vertex or sketch point on the part.

Selection

Face

Positions the injection location on a selected face and highlights the face.

You can only select faces that connect to the cavity or associated runner domain.

Available for solid analysis procedure only.

Point Positions the injection location on a selected vertex or sketch point on the part. You can only select points that connect to the cavity or associated runner domain. Once you create the mesh, the injection location snaps to the nearest node of the mesh.
Pointer Diameter

Specifies the diameter of the conical pointer that indicates the injection location. Available for solid analysis procedure only.

Predict Flow Pattern Predicts the plastic flow pattern through the cavity at the end of fill using an approximate simulation procedure. You must create the mesh before activating this feature.

When you use multiple injection locations, this feature helps you visualize the flow pattern as the cavity fills with material entering from all injection locations. It provides a rough indication of how weld lines might develop where the flow fronts merge.

Injection System For co-injection simulation, you assign to the injection location a unique number associated with its injection system.

Specify Material Injection Range

You specify the injection range in terms of filling time or filled volume ratio for the specified injection location. Applies only to simulations with multiple injection locations or co-injection simulation.

Volume Ratio (%) Controls the injection range for the selected injection location based on the percentage of the cavity volume that is filled. For injection of a single polymer material, you must specify 100% of the range. Overlap is permitted, which means that injection may commence at any location before it is completed at other locations.
Time Ratio (%): Controls the injection range for the selected injection location based on a percentage of the total filling time. For injection of a single polymer material, you must specify 100% of the range. Overlap is permitted, which means that injection may commence at any location before it is completed at other locations.
Total Filling Time (seconds) Displays the total filling time parameter from the Fill process settings.
