Flow Injection Factor PropertyManager

The Flow Injection Factor is a mesh-based method that allows you to define areas of increased flow resistance, typically because of the presence of small holes or perforations in the model. The specification of this factor allows you to compensate for the shortcomings of the modeling assumptions inherent in the shell analysis procedure.

To open the Flow Injection Factor PropertyManager, do one of the following:

  • In the PlasticsManager, right-click Shell Mesh , and click Flow Injection Factor .
  • In the Plastics CommandManager, under Create Mesh, click Flow Injection Factor.
Select Through Enables the selection of surface mesh faces on either side of a thin part. Drag the pointer from left to right to define a box selection to select surface mesh faces.
Flow Injection Factor The default value of 4 is suitable for regions where 50% of their surfaces have holes. The allowable range for the flow injection factor is between 1 and 10. A higher value indicates a higher flow resistance.
You typically select a suitable Flow Injection Factor by comparing simulation results to real-world molding results.
Apply Applies the Flow Injection Factor to the surface mesh faces you select.
After clicking Apply, the selected mesh faces change color from the default purple to the color associated to the given flow injection factor.
Deselect All Removes the selection of the surface faces highlighted by the box selection in the graphics area. Deselect All is available before you click Apply.
Reset Removes the selection of the highlighted surface mesh faces.
