Runner System PropertyManager

Molten polymer flows through the runner system from the injector nozzle to the part cavity.

To open the Runner System PropertyManager:

  • In the PlasticsManager, right-click Domains , and click Runner System.
To create a runner domain, select a method: Sketch-Based Runner, or Runner Wizard.

Methods

Sketch-based Runner Uses existing sketches as the centerline of the runner channel. For the solid analysis procedure, the software creates temporary solid bodies as a basis for mesh creation.
Runner Wizard Uses the Runner Wizard PropertyManager to specify the complete runner system geometry with individual sprue, runner, and gate components.

Sketch-Based Runner

Select one of the standard cross-sections for the runner layout and specify its dimensions.

Selections Select sketch lines to define the channel layout.
Flip Dimension Reverses the dimensions for the selected runner.
Circle Specifies the channel diameters D1 and D2 for each line segment of the sketch. Alternatively, specify D1 and a draft angle . Available with both Solid and Shell procedures.
Square Specifies the dimensions of the square cross sections D1 and D2 for each line segment of the sketch. Alternatively, specify D1 and a draft angle . Also, specify the orientation angle of the cross section . Available only with the Shell procedure.
Half Circle Specifies the channel diameters D1 and D2 for each line segment of the sketch. Alternatively, specify D1 and a draft angle . Also, specify the orientation angle of the cross section . Available only with the Shell procedure.
Rectangular Specifies the dimensions of the rectangular cross sections D1, D2, D3, and D4 for each line segment of the sketch. Alternatively, specify D1 and D2 and a draft angle . Also, specify the orientation angle of the cross section . Available only with the Shell procedure.
Trapezoid Specifies the dimensions of the trapezoidal shape D1, D2, D3, D4, H1, and H2 for each line segment of the sketch. Alternatively, specify D1, D2, H1, and a draft angle . Also, specify the orientation angle of the cross section . Available only with the Shell procedure.
Ellipse Specifies the dimensions of the elliptical cross sections D1, D2, D3, and D4 for each line segment of the sketch. Alternatively, specify D1, D2, and a draft angle . Also, specify the orientation angle of the cross section . Available only with the Shell procedure.
Number of Elements Specifies the number of meshing elements in the streamwise direction of each line segment of the sketch.
Assign Applies the current design parameters to the selected line segments, and updates the graphics area accordingly.
  Delete Removes the current selections.
