Force PropertyManager

You can use forces to animate the motion of moving parts in an assembly. Click the Force tool (MotionManager toolbar) to display the Force PropertyManager.

Force Type

You can select two types of forces for a Motion Analysis study:

  • Linear Force

  • Torsional Force

Direction

For Action only , select a face, edge, or vertex for Force Action Position and Direction and set the Force Direction.

For Action & reaction , select a face, edge, or vertex for Force Action Position and Direction and select an edge or vertex for Force Reaction Position.

Specify the origin of the force:

  • Assembly origin

  • Selected component. For this option, select a component.

Force Function

Select a Force Function type:

  • Constant . Set the Constant Value.

  • Step . Set the Initial Value, Start Step Time, Final Value, and End Step Time.

  • Harmonic . Set the Amplitude, Frequency, Average, and Phase Shift.

  • Expression . Enter the formula using supported functions and results that you have already created.

You must create a Motion Analysis study result before you can use it in a force expression. Result objects and other expression quantities are calculated in document units.

  • Interpolated . Type values for the Time and Force, and select the interpolation type (Akima or Cubic). SolidWorks Motion interpolates a spline between the data points.

    • As an alternative, click Load From File to browse to a file with your Time and Force values in it. The file must be a unit-less text file delimited by commas, or a .csv file.
